Must Buy in Penang!!

Penang is a fantastic place to visit and of course-shopping!! Talk about new shoes, handbags and lots more, Penang can surely satisfy your preferences in buying new things!! Lots can be choose from.. and we will take you by the hand and introduce you: 7-must-buy-special-products!


1-Nutmeg
Grown in abundance at Balik Pulau region, there are many uses of nutmeg: spice powder for food seasoning and flavoring and even balm or oil ailments and massage. Penang's nutmegs are of top grade and richer in fragrance then those grown elsewhere. Available at souvenir shops near Kek Lok Si or Chowrasta market.

2-Rojak
Rojak sauce is a thick liquid shrimp paste used as dressing for rojak, a fruit and vegetable salad mixture that is very popular in Malaysia. Available at souvenir shops near Kek Lok Si or Chowrasta market.


3-Tau Sa Piah

A ball-shaped flaky biscuit with mung-bean fillings with savoury taste. Tau Sa Piah is sometimes known as Tambun biscuits. Available at most biscuit shops or Chowrasta market yet the famous one is from Ghee Hiang and Him Hiang. 


4-Kuih Bahulu

Kuih bahulu is a traditional Malay cake that is slightly crisp on the outside but soft spongy inside. Made from flour, sugar and eggs, it is a delicious tea time snack. Available at Chowrasta market or supermarkets. 


5-Pickled Fruits

These are fruits preserved in concentrated sugar syrup or vinegar. These mouth watering tidbits are available at market stalls and local shops.


6-Traditional Nyonya Beaded Shoes

Also known as kasut manik, these hand-sewn beaded shoes are worn with Nyonya Kebaya in earlier days.


7-Hand Embroidered Kebaya

This is a tight fitting semi-transparent blouse with sarong is usually worn by the Nyonyas. The blouse is fastened with beautiful chained brooches known as keronsang. the kebaya comes in many sweet colours and elegant embroidery.
